MOUSE HELP NEEDED

I know that one of you fine, fine people in the blogging world will be able to help me with me mouse dilemma.

No I don't need traps.

Or poison.

Or cheese.

It's my fucking computer mouse.

I think of myself as reasonably high-tech when it comes to SOFTWARE and making shit happen, but not with plugging things in and fixing things and shit. I can hook up a dsl connection and TiVO but that's about it...

My XH was always the savior when it came to fixing my computer issues; although he did do his fair share of fucking things up from time to time.

Here's my ISSUE:

I have a wireless mouse. I changed it's batteries because it wasn't working.

I put in the new batteries and it lit up like a christmas tree, all happy.

Still it wasn't working.

So I pulled out the little wired mouse that connects to the PC that I assume is where it sends the signal too; it has a button on it, and an orange light. When I push the button, the little orange light flashes, and the wireless mouse works. After about 30 seconds, the little organe light goes out and the mouse stops working. In order to make the mouse work again, I have to push the button again.

Please help.

Don't tell me to re-boot because I'll have to hunt you down and smack you.

I also have a wireless mouse, and don't have any issues UNLESS the mouse and the wireless thingie can't "see" eachother... Check the bottom of the mouse and see if there is a connect button. There is a connect button on both my mouse and my wireless thingie.

I don't have a light on mine, i get a screen on my computer that tells me my batteries are low. Maybe even try switching out the batteries again?

You don't have to hunt me down to smack me, I'll tell ya where I am, cuz I might like it! *wink*

I love your blog!

What kind of mouse is it (specifically, make and model number)? That would help out tracking down the solution for us folks out here in cyberspace ;-)

geez Dave, it's just a mouse, mouse.

It's a HP model # mur028
The Receiver is a HP Wireless desktop receiver 1.0 A.

Jen: I don't have a connect button.

There is nothing on the bottom of the receiver part, and they can see each other. The wireless keyboard is working just fine.

Did you try rebooting??

KIDDING.

I think there is a little pinhole sized button that you can press with a pen end to get it to reset.

Damned technology. Any wireless mouse I've dealt with has had a button on both the receiver and the actual mouse. As SFG says, sometimes it's just a pinhole that you stick a pen in. I'm not sure if it matters what order you do it - you might want to try it both ways. Or you could just buy a new one for $20, but that doesn't help you right now. Sorry. Whatever you do, DON'T REBOOT. (unless you want to)

Old geek here, too....sorry, RSG..

May I suggest reINSTALLING the mouse? Have you tried that? I've had to do that with my mouse (WITH WIRE, mind you) a few times?

That's my (uneducated) guess..

RSG, I did a search on the HP site for the manual for your mouse, based on the number you gave for the receiver. It's at: http://www.microinv.com/documents/P2357AA1.pdf If that's the right one, then on page 6 it shows where the button is on the bottom of the mouse, and the steps to re-establish connectivity. Hope that helps.

Aw, shucks... thanks! Um, it probably helps that I'm a computer teacher by profession. Along with teaching, if it plugs in, the faculty comes to me for help with it. ;)
