Keeping Score

People keep score in life.
All people.
It's called cause and effect, or reward and consequences.

"If you work for me on Saturday, I'll work for you on Sunday."
"I'll watch your kids if you pick up my drycleaning and go to the store for me."
"I'll trust you if you don't give me any reason not to."

You know the person who is always asking for a favor but never is able to do one in return?
They bug you don't they? And it doesn't make you want to do any more favors for them.

Relationships are the same way.
They should be equitable and even;
and if one person accuses the other person of scorekeeping.
It's usually because they are the one who isn't holding up their end of the bargain.

You're right Woo, everything in life is give and take. If it isn't the balance is upset and things go to shit and people start to feel used. Sorry you're feeling that way.

WHOA!
This is a good one.
Very true though. I have a lot of those kind of people around me and it really pisses me off.
I hope that whatever you are feeling right now will be all better soon. I am sorry I am not better with words.

Never really thought about it that way until I read your post. Couldn't agree more.

I discovered your blog after seeing a link on another site, and I'm quite glad I did so.

I very much enjoy your perspective, your candor, and your obvious intelligence.

Yeah, I have one of these... she doesn't even consistently return phone calls unless it's to her benefit.

Hmmm. Much to read into in this post. I'm sorry you're feeling this way, but I'm glad, too. Because you're the caller on it, you're recognizing it. Good for you and more power to you.

Its hard to make room in a relationship for scorekeeping. It pushes aside all of the good stuff that should be in the forefront.

I am pretty sick of people like that myself. In fact, most of my friends are that way. Why do I call them my friends? Good damn question.

I was really having a moment in the shower after giving some thoughts to things that have and do go on in my personal life.

Remember, I think I'm always right and have a hard time finding fault in myself; I only seem to be able to blame myself.

You all rock my world. I appreciate you all stopping by and lending a loving supportive ear (or eyes, I guess in this case...)

I heart you!
